Default Silverado Power lock issues

Backstory.

2001 Silverado Extended Cab LS

Purchased truck with the Driver's side Power Door lock not working. Switch worked the pass side fine, Unlock worked fine.. So I Ordered a new Actuator..


Installed said Actuator.. and still doesn't work.. Grrrr...

Do some online searching, find out there are TWO relays for the Drivers side Door Lock Actuator.. swapped them and now the door locks but will not unlock.. SO I get a relay from napa and Viola,, Works.. Only $212.00 for the relay with a free actuator.. lesson learned....... Or so I thought

so to be safe, I order a couple of relays online and install them..

ended up replacing the Door switch and the regulator/motor assy for the drivers side to pass inspection..
I notice a day or so later...
The pass side is now exhibiting the same issue. ok. not gonna waste my money this time, right........

So I test all relays, good... Test the switches, Good.. Getting power to the junction block on the lock and unlock side,, Good.. Getting power to the actuator in lock and unlock mode.. Check.. So Replace the actuator assembly.. because if you're getting power to the mechanism and it's not working, it MUST be bad,, right....................................

Wrong.. order and install new pass side door lock actuator.. Hit the button and NOTHING happens.. WTF.. Are you serious..

So bust out the test light again. Power to the switch, power to the lock.. Hmm.. Take the multimeter, maybe it's not getting 12 volts.. Yup.. 12.89 volts in lock and unlock.. De pin the connector and swap the unlock wire with the lock wire.. The lock assembly locks.. but not unlocks.. Hmmmmmm.......

Back to the online searching... find out.............. after lots of looking........



The relay is in backwards........ ARE YOU F.....ing kidding me...

I installed it according to the diagram on the fuse panel, which is apparently incorrect... flipped the new relay around and voila it works...



SO if you have a Silverado and your door locks does one thing but not the other, check the relays and if you've replaced any, flip them too... Might save you a couple hundred bucks.....

Wow, you can reverse the relays? Only two spades? As a Ford guy, I would normally say something, but this is educational. Most the relays in my truck only go in one way AFAIK.

Congratulations, that had to be exasperating.

not two spades, it's a 5 pin relay that goes into a 6 pin hole.. the open pin was what was missing..

I've been in the auto repair industry since 1984.. ya pick up a thing or two.. tenacity is sometimes called for.. sometimes a BFH is needed..

all switches must work..

Md has a very through safety inspection. but its only done at title time. so each consecutive owner had too have one.. but not an annual one like most states.

Wow, Mary Lund Sucks! We have no inspections here, ever.
But... you should see some of the Hoopty cars we got runnin around. I'm in the car biz too (Collision Repair). I cant tell you how many cars I fix with tires so bald I can see the air in them, but the owners cant figure how they slid into the car in front of them.
Even a salvage title inspection here is not a safety inspection, the only thing they are checking is paper work for the parts you replaced to make sure they aren't stolen.

here, all the driver side must work, passenger not so much. another thing is that the driver side is sorta a master and the passenger a slave. on mine, first key unlocks driver door and second the passenger so contact issues can cause trouble.
a funny story:
i bought mine new and went to work offshore. after the tour went to landing and went to get into my truck and can't. some "A-****" parked so close i could not get in! no problem so i thought!!! tooled around to the passenger side and guess what??? NO KEY HOLE!!!
well, never stand in the way of a man going home after being 100 miles out on the water, so flipped open my tool box, removed proper size wrench and removed the dude's drive shaft!!!! i then pushed the truck till i could get in and moved mine. so as not to leave him in a bind, laid the driveshaft in the back of his truck with hardware and the wrench, small price the wrench to get home and teach the SOB a lesson!!!

I have had the joys of working on my wifes Chrysler Crossfire . The steering would not unlock anymore. Fun and games in the modern world.

I learned about chip sensors on the ring around the where you insert the key and to not break it.

I red necked it.and disabled the locked steering entirely. By pulling out the locking pin.
Now it starts and runs like a normal car.

Now she wants a Audi with a V-8. Back to the drawing board for me.
