The problem is not the total length of the cable - it's the 'travel distance' of the inner cable that makes this an issue... The overall cable length could be 6', but if the inner cable sticks out farther than 4.5" (in your case) then you're going to have a problem...

OR, you could have enough threads on the adjuster to take out the 5'-8.5" on that outer cable.

Mzavala asked...
"Does anyone have this cable guide on their carb and want to measure the distance from the spot on the throttle cam where the cable hooks in --->the cable guide? Using string mine looks to be about 4". The only reason I'm questing this is because I can get the other bracket for $10 so if it would fix it that would be cheaper than the cable."

Yes, I measured mine with a piece of wire just now, and it measures right at about 4" in a direct line from center of cable end to top of the bracket cable guide.

The bracket seems perfect.

Well that clears that up for me. I will just go down the custom cable route. Thanks for all the help guys. I emailed Barnett to see what the cost of a custom cable will be. I also saw that their cables for '87 XLH 1100 has 4.21" of travel but that may be just a little too short. Gonna try to think of a way to test that out with my cable at home, maybe pulling the cable through the little end and tying it off some how.

Make a spacer that will sit inside the cable holder (a piece of plastic tube with slit cut in it to get over the inner cable will work). Test it for adjustment. Then deduct the length of the spacer from the length of exposed inner cable you have now and that's what you need. Heck, even if it extends out of the holder it will work well enough to make sure the adjustment is more towards center of the threads.

Too funny, I have been looking for my glasses for about an hour and just found them on the seat of the bike, where I put them while I made that measurement.

Some days...… !

Sounds like a plan, I think I'll start with the 1" spacer and see if that '87 cable would work and then clip a little off until I get it dialed in. Hoping the inner from a bic pen will be strong enough, it fits in the cable bracket pretty well.

So I tried out the 1" spacer to simulate the '87 cable, the throttle cam reached the stop without any adjustment so I think that one might be too little travel. I trimmed it down to .75" but when I installed it back in the guide the plastic started to split. It ended up stopping about 5/8" and I was able to adjust it correctly with the adjuster about 1/3 the way out. I think I will order a custom cable with 4.625" travel to mirror that.

Thanks for all the help guys, I will post up some more once I get the cable!
