Default I stand corrected

So, I guess I was dreaming years ago, when they first came out, and you had to seal off the tranny. And why I can not explain why if they make them, everybody runs them dry. Or why nobody makes the ones that fit a Ironhead. But if I am wrong, then I will take my beating. So I will have to tell frogy that I am wrong and to just run his in oil. Sorry for my nightmare I posted.

i am definitely with you on going back to the factory chain set up. takes away any confusion, and i certainly wouldn't want to find out the hard way that the belt wasn't up to the task.

Default new open belt drives for evo sportsters

Here is the only belt drive I found, when looking for the ones that fit a Ironhead. And if you look, they use a plate to seal off the tranny, and have a oil fill, in the sealing plate. So, I am still wondering about how well the belt would last. I mainly do resto work, and not a whole lot of aftermarket changes. So I do not keep up with this stuff. But even as old as I am, I still can remember the tranny sealing system, to keep oil off the belt. But, with todays tech, I am probably wrong. I too, would hate to get far from home, and find out, I had to ship my bike back on a transport truck.

Thanks for all above i have tried to contact seller but to no avail!!!

when i bought the bike there was no primary pully on but when i opened up the primary cover oil came out????? it was not dry

just had an idea is there a drain plug under engine and box ??? if there is could i undo this and drain the trans oil, then refill start up for a bit then undo again if more oil comes out this would prove oil is actually getting into gearbox and can relax a little until i actually start re-build and then i think i will revert back to Primary chain

what is everyone's thoughts on this

Default Oil in primary

there is a drain, but it is in the primary side. If the trap door is not sealed, it will drain both. If the trap door is sealed, you cant drain it with the factory drain. But, if the main seal on the motor shaft is bad, and the motor had not been ran for a long time(relative to the shape of your oil feed check valve), it can fill the motor, and drain through a part called the oil transfer valve, or through a bad motor shaft seal. So, there is no definite answer. The engine "pully" has to fit the seal, or it will not contain the engine oil too. So, if the pully has NO flange on the back side, that could be the problem. Open it up and pull the pully and look, unless you are sure it does and it fits the seal tightly enough to keep oil in the motor. So, the reason it had oil in the primary when you first opened it up, is the seal was allowing oil to transfer through the open hole(even if it looks sealed). So, some photos of the pully back side, and of the bottom area of the trap door(where the trans/clutch shaft is , for the clutch), so we can see if it is sealed or open for oil to go into the trans. The motor oil, is a separate area, and only comes into the primary for the reasons I mention above.

they tell me, that the belt will run in oil. And they may be correct. But I and they are sure it will work, with the steel chain and pully/clutch drum. so, that is a decision that YOU will have to make.
