Want new blood? offer what they can afford and they will buy it.

It does no good for the Motor Company if dealers make money off used bike sales because they are cheap. HD needs bikes under 10 grand.
the quandary is the dealers do not recognize those are the future, and the faithful resent water cooling.

I agree with you, but, I was very shocked that the new Yamaha Venture touring bike was an air cooled V-Twin. I really thought Yamaha should have stuck to the original Venture and made a liquid cooled V4.

Question: How many here think the MoCo will make a smaller frame softtail with a smaller version M8 and call it a Sportster in the next year or two?

I wonder if they will, but really dont know what to think here. Just heard speculation about it. I dont think they could do it and keep the prices at "introductory bike" levels..

Smaller version of the M8 I think is very possible, then again so is a larger version (1,000-1,200cc) of the Revolution motor for a new version of the Sportster to compete directly with the Indian Scout.

I would be very surprised if it was a Softail. I think the twin shock is more compatible with the Bobber, Café Racer, Dirt Tracker, and Scrambler look that the new bike will come in.

H-D is making adjustments to adapt to a changing market so as to appeal to gen-x and to millennials while not alienating the current loyalists.

Street models are being marketed as “stand-alone” models. Sportsters were often marketed as “When I grow up, I want to be a Big Twin” models. The P&A section for the Streets does not list fiberglass bags, big windshields, forwards, or mini-apes.

The Sportster and the Street are featured prominently in H-D financial reports and presentations. My dealer has a row of Sportsters and Streets facing the front door. Those models used to be in the back or off to the siide. Another local dealer has oversize posters of riders on Roadsters filling up the front windows.

If the Live Wire has reasonable range (125 miles), a reasonable recharge time (80% in 20 min.), and a reasonable price, I think it will be a success. Many potential riders have never driven or even been in a vehicle with a manual transmission and have no desire to learn how to operate a clutch. I think there’s a market for a “real” motorcycle with twist-and-go operation.

I dont think there is recharging station support for electric to work right now. Who knows what things will be like in 20 years though. I just hope they dont outlaw gasoline and I can keep my old bikes running!Says me-Im not ready for EFI yet either

The charging-station infrastructure might increase much faster than expected. Also, there was a rumor about H-D working with Tesla. I haven’t heard anything about that recently.
