Just changed a 14 inch car tire on a car rim by hand to save me 15 bucks yesterday.

15 bucks is bike parts.

Tire-iron recommendations?
The longer the better. On my car tire change. I used HB cheapo

to get things started.

How tough is it to re-seat a well-lubed tire bead?
Not tough using dawn dish soap mixed with water and your tie down straps to squeeze the outer rubber around the tire.

Shop mounts for nothing if you buy from them...so I do that.

I also change my auto and truck tires. Then I take to a local shop for balancing. I change my bike tires too, and I balance them myself. I made my own balancer.

I just changed my first set of tires . Tires were on a 82 Suzuki gs850gl for 25 years. It was a lot easier than I thought. I will be doing my own tire changes from now on and save myself $140.00 (canadian).
