Well - Maybe ---- I'm not convinced at this point...

This is the reason I say so often --- Be Patient, be Accurate, be Methodical & be Thorough --- It's more important to check everything thoroughly than it is to get to some perceived quick fix...

More times than not - by trying to hurry toward a quick fix, you overlook things that really need attention - and those overlooked items either contribute to the difficulty of finding the current problem and/or cause another problem in the near future - simply because they were not addressed at the time you were working in that area of the bike...

So - Be Patient, be Accurate, be Methodical & be Thorough...

If you're going to head into the electrical system:

Here's the Sportsterpedia section on checking the battery cables, voltages and grounds:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...place_to_start

Here's the section on the Ignition Modules:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...k:evo:engctl01

Followed by the section on the Coil:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...-_specs_checks

And here's the section on the circuit breakers, relays & charging system:

Default Success!

Success at last!
Tore into the battery cables and found the battery ground to tranny cable completely disconnected, probably from the 'pulling battery out to tighten ends' operation.
Serviced all other grounds and positive connections, for good measure.
She fired right up and runs like a champ!!
My theory is that cable has been my problem for quite some time.

Incidentally, there was no sign of corrosion on any other connection.
Took her out for about an hour and rung her out good.
Awesome.

Thanx for all the help from everyone.
This should be in the 'Electrical'section, just sayin'.

Glad you found it...

I suppose this is one more lesson that checking the basics first will lead to finding the problem about 80% of the time... Even when the symptoms point elsewhere...

Nope - it's appropriate right here - since it started out as looking like a carb issue, it serves as an example of not zeroing in on just what it might be, but do the basic checks in BOTH carb & electrical anyway - Then, if not found/resolved, move to more specific discovery...

Thanks for the update...

Thanx for the help.
And you are right, I wouldn't have inspected the diaphragm again without you and Doc's suggestions.
And I completely agree that the basics should be done FIRST. I oughta know that by now, as it's true for semis, cars and bicycles, as well as motorcycles.
