IME, a CV will work on an Evo BT, Evo or IH XLs with minimal tuning; you'll be in good shape if the carb is a good 'un
You may do well to research if you can put a later XL style ignition in; one that will use the little stamped timing cup and an ignition that you can program a spark curve, or at least choose between several preset curves
The thing here is to be able to ditch the mechanical advance. That's basically one more mechanical thing that can wear (which they can, and do, especially the aftermarket offshore ones), and require lube periodically (meaning you have to have ign module out, and then re-time after servicing)

Thanks, I have been researching programmable ingnitions. I just got a couple cv rebuild kits and an assortment of jets. I couldn’t find one kit that had everything I wanted so I wound up with 2 kits and some single items. Carb will come off next weekend for rebuild and I have a Pucky Chinese carb a friend gave me that he used while his carb was off, he said it actually works well but shelved it after he finished his. Thanks again, will update with what I find
