Default Bought a '74 today.

XLH, I believe. Has electric but no kick starter. Right side shift 4 speed. One and a half owner bike, meaning the guy I bought it from had it for a few months, after he bought it from the daughter of the original owner, who had died. It's in nearly stock condition, but has a two disc Superglide front end and a semi-good repaint in basic blue.

Saw it on CL, and knew I'd buy it as soon as I saw it. Very clean. Even had a bunch of old receipts and the owner's manual.

Does not run. Needs battery for sure and maybe a coil. Might need more, but I'm pretty good at twirling wrenches, though I've never owned a Harley before.

The engine was supposed to have been recently rebuilt, like 5000 miles ago, with Andrews cams and so on. We'll see about all that as I learn more about the bike. I had no reason to think the seller was intentionally lying, he was actually very nice and helpful and knew a lot about bikes and was a generally cool guy, but info tends to get scrambled. I'm fully prepared to put some money into it anyway, so if it needs some work that's fine.

Does anyone know of a good shop with ironhead parts on hand in the San Francisco Bay area?

I don't think I can post images, but I will if I can figure out how to.

The only XL "shop" I know of is Sportster Specialties.

You can find a lot of what you will need on eBay.

Start with Factory Service and Parts manuals.

74 rates as one of the best in my books.

I came *this* close to buying a 74. I believe it was already sold when I was going to buy it. I bought a 75 instead. I guess I could take the shift linkage off my 75 and call it 74.
