Speedometer

Speedometer was working intermittently but now is completly dead. Does the VSS have anything to do with it or my speedometer needs to be changed.

Check for codes, a VSS code wouldn't necessarily turn on the Check engine light.

The VSS sensor shares a 5 volt reference with several other sensors, TPS, TMAP and JSS(international models)

It may be a faulty vehicle speed sensor or wiring to or from that sensor. Have you first checked that you have 12 volt power to speedo position one which is orange (ignition) and three which is brown/gray (accessory)?

Also do you have good continuity to ground on the black wires at position 7 and 8?

What is voltage to VSS?...from ECM position 14 r/w, changes to bk/r at VSS...should be 5 vdc

Next step would be VSS output on bk/be wire to ECM position 33 per the Sportsterpedia link in IXL2Relax's post 3.
