Was a about to do fork maintenance
I Alrdy got some ipone fork oil 20
But I don’t know if my spring are stock or not and maybe 20 oil gona be to hard then

So if you guys have any clue there is it

Those are Dual-Rate Springs - You can see the difference in coil spacing.

I believe all the HD OEM Fork Springs thru 2003 were single-rate springs,
although the part numbers changed in 1997 - so I'm not sure.

Those may be Progressive brand springs or some other aftermarket brand.
Did you have a preload spacer at the top?

Here are two Sportsterpedia links regarding Fork Oil. I suspect 20# is too thick unless you're carrying higher than normal weight. Also remember that the front & rear shocks do interplay with each other - so sometimes, what appears to be a front suspension issue, may actually be happening because of a rear suspension problem.

This link to the 45376-97 part shows a Dual-Rate wound spring:

Therefore, I would think you have STOCK SPRINGS. They seem to be full length at 20.75" long.


What was the point of identifying the springs (other than curiosity)? Are you putting them back in? Replacing them?

Was there a problem with the front suspension?

Be sure to go thru setting the sag (adding preload if needed).

Have you upgraded or changed the rear shocks?

rear are progressive 412


Just wanted to be sure because ppl say 20w oil i'ts only good to help if you have stock springs


so if they are stock im good with my 20w oil if they not need some 15w
