Indeed they are. Thanks. The "problem" was the dealer I was using.

Has anyone bought individual steels and frictions?

The 37911-90 friction plate that shows as $25.99 on the parts fiche, is a $188.00 "pack of 8" when I put ONE in my cart to buy it... Same with the 37913-90 steels becoming a "pack of 6".
I bought those three plates separately from my local dealer and installed them, worked OK BUT often got a very annoying squeal when taking off in first gear, a common problem I later learned.
Did some more research and decided to go with the entirely different judder spring setup from an XR120/Buell XB, works great as spring plate is gone and no squeal. Made a post on this fix in this section a few days ago...

They can be bought separately.

So, people who installed the 'SE kit', is it the # 38002-04 kit that you used?

What about the # 37980-10 kit? This is just friction and spacer discs (no spring); I guess you reuse the original spring? Presumably these discs are different to the # 38002-04 ones? The discs (only) from the # 38002-04 kit are # 38001-04.

I'm supposing these instructions were related to the XR1200 since they mention the damper spring & seat (not the spring plate)...

The friction plates have friction pads spaced apart while the 38002-04 kit has a continuous friction surface...

The 37980-10 install instructions say:

Quote:
Remove the eight friction discs, six spacer discs, damper spring and damper spring seat from the clutch assembly following the instructions in the service manual.
NOTE
The spacer discs supplied in this kit must be used with the friction discs supplied in this kit. Do not use the original equipment spacer discs with this kit.
NOTICE
Do not reinstall the damper spring and/or damper spring seat with this kit. Doing so will affect the stacked height of the clutch discs. Failure to comply could result in premature clutch failure and possible engine damage.
37980-10 Kit comes with 9-Friction & 8-Steels (called spacer discs) ...
The instructions say the individual discs are not available...

I don't know if it can be used on the XR1200, I didn't look at that; I was just aware of it because it's listed as fitting the rubbermount Sportsters.

I've just checked: yes, it does say that it fits the XR1200 too.

Ah, that's an XR1200 thing, is it? I wondered what that was about.
