Went from 16" apes on 4 1/2" risers to 32", 2" pullback on 8" straight risers. Much better for me dealing with all around riding.

Is your first priority looks or comfort? Are apes and drag bars the only choices? I have never run apes because it's intuitively obvious that I won't find them comfortable. I put drag bars on a Yamaha SR500 and after a ride of about 220 miles my whole body felt like I had been beat with a stick. Note - I have arthritis in my shoulders and nearly everywhere else.
For comfort and control I like arlen Ness Flat Tracker bars. (http://www.arlenness.com/prodcat/bars.asp). Just a suggestion. Choice of bars is as subjective as who is the prettiest woman in the room.

You'd be surprised how comfortable apes can be and I found slow speed parking lot maneuvering much improved which really surprised me.

Drag Bars were killing me... I was riding in a "half way open pocket-knife" position... NOT good. Got 16" Apes and a Springs Solo seat and I am not going back, all sweet now!!!

That old school mini apes look for me! My most recent bike (xl1200c) came stock with the (straight) 5" riser and drag bars, sure I got used to them but it wasn't the riding position that I'm accustomed to. I've had 8" friscos and 12" mini apes (both with 2" risers) on other bikes, and this time I kept the stock 5" riser and slapped on 10" mini apes - couldn't be happier or more comfortable!
