Those parts are in the 2016 parts manual as a fork spring and rebound spring.

The fork spring for the '72', the rebound spring for several models.

I was thinking something else was off too, but I haven’t double checked it. Those were the big and obvious inconsistencies. I think it’s odd that despite being wrong, they do all come back as fork parts. Wonder how that happened.

It wasn’t until after I’d mentioned it being wrong that I thought about the asymmetric forks likely using a lot of the same parts as the cartridge setup here. I knew the 1200S and FXDX had a cartridge setup, but wasn’t sure if any of it would be the same as what those parts should have been listed as.

Read the 7 Pages of Suspension in the suspension sticky section. Adding Ricor Intiminators and proper springs, one rate less than needed without them, will make a huge difference. Cheaper, quicker and just as good as most cartridge set ups.

Oh I know about the Intiminators (and the Emulators, but if I'm doing any cutting and grinding, these cartridges get a bit more appealing). I'm just exploring options at the moment. My rear end is likely to come first anyway, so I'm just looking at what can be done here. There's a decent chance I'll go that route. The only obvious drawback I see is the lack of external adjustment, which isn't likely to be needed often, and even then, you can still make external preload happen with a damper rod fork.

I am curious what kind of performance the SE really offers though. Being a canned HD option, it's probably a decently nice Showa cartridge, with a spring that doesn't make much sense.

When Sportster forks were damper rod, Ricor Intiminators became the most popular mod and worked for literally hundreds of guys. When Sportster changed to cartridge forks and shocks, fork and shock mods dropped to almost zero.

Depending on how much you weigh, and condition and spring rate of rear shocks, a lot of guys found that fixing the forks with proper springs and Ricor Intiminators let them reduce shock preload by a notch or two and then did not need any further shock upgrades.

I have two other bikes with custom Ohlins front and rear, properly set up and real close to ride quality of my Ricor equipped Roadster.

I have not read any reports of SE conversion, too expensive.
