I received an E-Mail from Harley on December 2nd 2008 inquiring if I would be interested in purchasing one of the first 750 XR1200 Sportsters to be sold in the U.S. and since I had been waiting and had hope that the Motor Company would eventually offer to sell them here, I had been saving my money just for that purpose. I went down to the California Harley Davidson dealership the next day (December 3rd 2008) and put down a 2 grand deposit. I had thought that it would take months for the bike to show up but within about a week I got a call to come down to pick up my new bike. I went down on the 12th and the bike was just being prepped by the dealer. They told me that I could pick it up on the 16th. I was there before they opened on the 16th. I left my car there and rode it home that day. I have put almost all, of the 500 break in miles on it with very careful attention to the recommended limits. This is an awesome motorcycle. The brakes are about the best that I have ever experienced. I feel that they are on a par if not better than the brakes on my ’06 XB12R Firebolt and the fact that the ’09 Buell model lineup have a different caliper are a testament to that. The chassis is very stable at highway (80 + MPH) speeds and I feel that it handles very well. The acceleration is good, but as I said I am taking it EASY on her at first and I am sure that a change to the exhaust and to the airbox intake will help open her up a bit as it has for all of my other Harleys. I rode it up to the Rock Store in Malibu Ca a few weeks ago and I seemed to keep up with a Ducati Monster with very little effort on my part at all. It feels a bit different to me than my other Harleys as I don’t have to kick my right knee out to miss the air cleaner as this bike’s air intake is under the tank. It feels more like one of my 850 Norton Commandos because I can tuck both knees against the frame as I throw it into a corner. I really like this bike!

agreed, I had the opportunity to ride out with a customer on a demo ride, and I took one of the factory fleet bikes, (xr1200) because I've been dying to ride it. It is indeed a radical departure from what most would have expected from HD, and sportster. I loved it, and throughout that day, I managed to take 4 customers on demo rides, and managed to take the xr each time, I logged about 75 miles on that bike that day, it's got IT!

Man.. I hate to see that this section has so little activitiy. I got active again over here at XLF specifically because I bought an XRX and was hoping for more info here.

Anyway, here is my bike, bought one month ago today, broken in during 4 days of riding the Tail of the Dragon and now I am looking at some performance mods.

Nice.

At times I regret selling my '10 and think of picking up another XR.

Well... I picked up a set of Dyna 2-1-2 headers complete with 02 bungs, a Patriot Top Fuel programmer and a K&N filter and as soon as all the parts arrive, I get to wake this puppy up!

Ha! Ha!
I know you eventually picked up a Buell.
I was looking for one when I found my XR.

Been looking at old threads....

Man, it's time to trade the Guzzi's and what not!
You've been pining over one of these since 2009!
