okay I was never in the military, for several reasons, none relevant here...but I come from a military background, and I actually knew what "show your rack" meant. And have respect for them. My brother is in Indiana right now getting ready to come out and play in the sandpile with you grizzled vets. Look out for him, his name is Dave and he's in the 220th Transportation Corps US Army.

Sometimes I wish certain civillian jobs would adopt the same practice...it's like wearing your resume on your chest. ... Not just the fruit salad, but rank, unit affiliation, "hash marks" etc. Very often, the "FNG" shows up on the job and sometimes I am Him and sometimes I am "The Old F@#$%^r" and it would be helpful to be able to see, at a glance, where a guy stands in the "pecking order". Sometimes some mouthy apprentice gives me Bullsh@t at first and a couple hours later, he comes up all smiles asking if he can be of any help...somebody told him I'm a Journeyman and he better watch his P's and Q's. Some times I tell some loudmouth A-Ho%e to "Shut The Fu&k Up" and find out he (or she) is a 3rd generation Journeyman and I Owe Him (or Her) an apology.

I Figure I'd be some Master Staff Chief Top Petty Officer even though I have a college degree, because I am not "Officer Materiel". I can get the guys to do whatever you want, skipper. Give me my pick of my squad and we'll storm whatever ya got. I'd be the perfect "wingman". I got yur back. I don't know or care much about where we're going or why...but I'll see to it you get there in one piece.

When we ride, I almost never am in the front...that's cool, like I said, I don't care much where we go or why, I'll ride your roller coaster, just take me somewhere cool. Just remember, I got your back.

Back to our "racks".

I figure I've got several "World Premiers" which would be good for a unit citation each, most certainly a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster,
and maybe a couple medals for going "above and beyond". Certainly the CIB. And most certainly "Hash Marks" up to my elbow.

The other thing good about ribbons is that they only show accomplishment. They do not give out ribbons for mistakes a person makes. This can only serve to make a person proud to own them by (mostly) earning them.

Wow....I can't even recall what happened to mine after so many moves since ETS from both services. I'll have to dig out my DD 214's tomorrow.

Would be nice if the gubmint would finally approve a Cold War Service ribbon or medal.

Well, it was stump the dummy night for me...I created the rack, but for the life of me couldn't figure out how to copy it over here...so for the old school folks (like me), I'll have to write mine out:

Air Force Commendation Medal w/ one oak leaf cluster
Air Force Achievement Medal
Outstanding Unit Award
Air Force Good Conduct Medal (never got caught)
Army Good Conduct Medal (never got caught, either)
Air Reserve Meritorious Service Medal w/ four oak leaf clusters
National Defense Service Medal w/ one oak leaf cluster
Vietnam Service Medal w/one oak leaf cluster
Air Force Overseas Short tour ribbon
Air Force Overseas Long tour ribbon
Longevity Service Award w/ five oak leaf clusters
Armed Forces Reserve Medal
NCO Professional Military Education Graduate ribbon
Small Arms Expert Markmanship
Air Force Training Ribbon

Well, it looks purdier on the rack! I'll try again tomorrow...
