I just saw this and I like it, but my old butt couldn't ride that for long. I do like the looks of hardtails.

thanks stairman --
i need to update this thread - been over a year..
--running a belt now-- and man is she smooth- short story--
i really wanted to run a belt for this bike( 4" stretched 06' hardtail),cause i hated the chain-
--and was told by many that i would not find one-- searched hi and low thru many years harley parts catalogue/e-bay/online,etc.. then i found a neat little belt calculator on the v-rod forum (1130cc.com)which tells what you need for distance between trans pulley and rear wheel for different tooth counts-or in other words how many belt teeth depending on how far apart your 2 pulleys are -after measuring my bike i needed 149-152 teeth --could not find one from harley,(in the correct width)--called manufacturers etc--nope-- but they can custom make one for about $400.00+ --NOT !
i did not give up--AND i did find one/exactly what i needed, mass produced,in stock,150 tooth,28mm- or-1 1/8" wide, and its even black in color--- it does not say "sportster" when you read the printing on it-and i have not sanded the name off -yet..
"VICTORY" as in the motorcycle company--yup,perfect fit-other than the name on it-looks like it was made by whoever makes them for harley (and it probably was)..my point there is that the victory bike gets 85hp-106torque-so these belts are strong...
other than that, bike is the same--changed bars back to dragbar (flanders broomstick for sale).. will get a uniform rattle can paint job soon satin gray- fenders/oil tank.. thats about it

i actually do not mind the ride--
"this is just my opinion, and what works for me....
i have ridden mine now for three seasons....and have played a little w/tire presssure..eh
now i just run pressure recommended in the owners manual,or the tire manuf....
the only thing i adjust is the way i ride, when riding the hardtail as opposed to a suspension bike...
watch out for bumps,watch speed,watch cornering..etc
i guess i change the way i ride depending on what i am riding/what i am on and what the limitations are to be safe--no horseplay(not that i screw around on a suspension bike, but there is more you can do on those bikes because of how they are engineered)
now thats not to say i don't love to throttle up from a deadstop or rolling in first and because of no rear suspension have the rear tire break loose as the bike fishtales - but thats about it
a hardtail is not and never will be -comfortable-,but having said that i have been on mine for 5 hours plus, and only put away because i had other things to do...hate to get off her"

.. I really did not do that much to the bike-see post #205 -it has taken years because of real-life priorities -as first post stated I was in no hurry , just wanted to do something different,it was fun- in answer to your question--
--NAH....having to lift yourself off the seat for bumps/etc., with the hardtail you really need mids , forwards will not cut it--same as apes, I think it needs them for looks, but pulling on apes constantly while lifting off the seat is not good....they would loosen for sure-
-(even the chain I removed "looks" better) but the vibes - in my mind it still needs a springer front end,oh and a real paint job would be nice, but my bank account and clock say nope--no money/no time... I am in the process of going with the led-sled footboards...and have acquired some smaller items..mirrors etc...and cleaned up wiring too...
-- hey rogster thanks for asking

This thread is great. Against all advice -- I'm waiting for a David Bird hardatail for my rubber-mount. Your bike turned out just awesome, and I'll be using it as a guide.
