Power vision vs. TTS; Crank Tooth Setting
If you're using a PowerVision to tune a build and have a high map idle, it's most likely because of an incorrect crank tooth setting that tells the ecm when to check the map sensor.
This is one thing Steve Cole has down with the TTS that DynoJet hasn't been able to figure out for years. Hence this parameter is hidden except for in beta versions that only dyno owners/operators have because it's hit and miss and they can't get it to work right.
Steve, having been involved with the code for Harley's Delphi system has a much better understanding of how it works.
I know Hammer likes the PV but if you buy one and rely on DynoJet or any vendor for a base cal and then just autotune and this crank tooth setting is off, you'll never get it tuned right. The only way to really know is a high map at idle. Should be in the low to mid 30s highest depending on a few other variables. 40s or 50s and this setting is most likely wrong.
The ecm has to read the map at the right time and it's not just based on IVO/IVC events of the cam. Overlap plays a part as well.
There's a 31 page thread on this from 4 years ago, heated at times, involving some knowledgeable people. Steve is one and the VP of DJ gets in on it towards the end.
It did eventually get locked but not until everyone involved agreed to have it locked.
I seem to recall a few here with map readings over 40kpa at idle.
Informative thread on the Delphi system and tuning and top dogs from each and people who support and use them go head to head on several good subjects including wideband vs. narrowband and the capabilities of each tuner's auto and V tuning.
