The coil is now being powered directly from the fuse block. I don't have an ignition switch any longer, only a toggle switch that supplies power and a momentary switch for the starter.

But, a piece of actual troubleshooting protocol that can be helpful, even though the OP has elected to send the unit back for warranty: temperature related failures can often be drug out into the light by getting one of those little cans of compressed air like you use for a keyboard and shooting the component when it fails, and seeing if it starts working again. This cools the circuit or component down, and if it magically starts working once it gets cold well, it's a pretty strong indication of what the problem is.

I will definitely try this if the problem persist, the new unit is expected to be in today or tomorrow. I did use two different coils with the module that had identical end results. One with single fire and one with dual fire.

why do it this way instead of a 3 way switch?

The replacement ignition module came in yesterday and I've ridden about 60 miles with no issues. Yea mf'n haw!
