Bill- The manufacture location is coded into the VIN at the 11th character, I think. Mine is a "Y", indicating it was made in York, PA. Here is the info:

Y, B = York, PA

T = Tomahawk, WI

J = Milwaukee, WI

K = Kansas City, MO

D = Manaus, Brazil

E = Buell East Troy

N = Haryana, India (Bawal District Rewari)

1980 was the last year for the old VINs which contain very little information. The new VINs started in 1981.
