Default Need to Replace Ignition Module

I need to replace the ignition module on 98 883. Should I buy Harley or aftermarket? If aftermarket provide a link. Surdyke harley is $211.24

Here's the HD Screamin' Eagle & other aftermarket ignition module page in the Sportsterpedia. There are other modules available, but the most popular around this forum is the Ultima nosecone ignition.

http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...k:ref:engctl01

The original HD modules were very susceptible to heat failures. HD quit making them very shortly after the 2003 models, the last that took the nosecone modules.

Are you sure its the module... I just replaced the ignition only to realize the coil was bad, even the new one. You tube has got info on checking the coil, its simple.

The coil tested okay. I followed the repair manual procedure.

I am getting a backfire while cruising so I am going to replace the ignition module with a new harley module. It should be plug n play as long as I put a scribe mark where the old module mounted to the backing plate.

vom is a go/no go test at best, it cannot really tell much else. there is error within the meter itself and the type of coil under test makes a huge diff.
