Question 35mm Showa Installation Procedure? Tighten Sequence?

Amateur here, so I have showa 35mm fork front end setup with dual disc narrow glide for my ironhead, the top inner tube has a tapered style with top stanchion cap bolt. I think I run a small curiousity in installing the front end. sometimes the steering is just to tight, preload is too tight. the question, what is the sequential bolt/nut tightening for this setup?

My sequence was started with all installed in loose
1. Tighten the stanchion top for the bolt to the upper triple three.
2. Once the inner tube snugged in, then I tightened the pinch bolt in lower triple three
3. Tighten the top stem cap nut on the stem until it close to the steering still loose enough to move, but no slack in lateral movement, or longitudinal
4. finally tighten the pinch bolt for the stem cap nut.

Did I do it right? or there is some other combination for these sets? My friend suggested different method, here:
1. tightened the pinch bolt in lower triple three
2. Tighten the top stem cap nut and its pinch bolt
3. Tighten the stanchion top bolt.

Your order looks fine. You want to tighten the fork cap nut first to fully seat the tapers.

If the steering is too tight, you need to set the fall-away by adjusting the stem cap nut torque. In my experience small adjustments make a big difference on the fall-away. You want the front end to be stable when pointed straight ahead, but "fall away" from center with a light nudge.

thx for the respond. sorry just to clarify about the "fall-away", it means the play of the front end going up and down? if it is too loose, surely we can feel the front end have play up and down. Sorry, I come from a country where English is not my major language.

But I think I understand the nudge, you just need to torque the stem cap nut to the point where the we can nudge the steering easily from center. is that so?

The stem cap nut should be torqued so, with the bike on a lift, the front end will stay put when pointed straight ahead but will "fall" to either side when nudged gently. By "fall" I mean it will go all the way to either side without you having to keep pushing it.

There should be no noticeable up-and-down movement at all. My method is to tighten the stem nut until the front end won't fall away at all, then loosen it until it does. Go slowly, a small change can make a big difference.
