76' XLH_Replace Keihin butterfly w/ CV carb
My 76' XLH1000 is all stock including exhaust system. Has original Keihin butterfly carb & works fine but just purchased a used oem H-D (Keihin) CV carb f/ a 1998 Evo. Carb looks almost new. Want to try out the CV. Have the flange adaptor and dual cable throttle. Any recommendations for main jet & pilot jet? What needle jet for best smooth running? Thanks for any help.

The CV-40 jetting for an EVO Sportster will be a good starting point. 45 low and 170 main will get ya in the ballpark. Stock CV's have very (EPA) lean jetting. I suggest looking into a YOST POWER TUBE. That tube really smooths out the CV.

CV Performance
I've been running a Keihin CV carb for maybe a year now. The above jetting suggestions are a good starting point. Try the "CVP Velocity needle" from CV Performance. Also poke around their website, lots of good info.
A single throttle cable should work fine.

The only problem is the petcock if you have it on the right side. I had to replace mine with a 90 degree valve.

Not real difficult, except for sourcing all the parts...and a Worthwhile endeavor.
I much like the CV on a Shovelhead... However to UpGrade an Ironhead, I prefer to go Backwards to a Bendix...and Ride Happily ever after!!
