welcome from the ghetto of detroit.

i rode a lot as a young many through high school and college,
mostly dirt, but some street too.

i have not had a bike in 20 years till this season.
rode others bikes a couple times in the that span, but quick short runs.
i bought a used 2010 XL1200 low this spring, love it.

i took it up north to where i camp, and there is no traffic.
if i miss bambi, im gonna be good.

i would suggest u find a rural area to ride alot, and practice.
avoid the traffic, and pot holes for a season.
u can deal with that later on.

buy a real set of armored riding leathers head to toe.
wear your helmet boots and gloves.

i might look like the leather guy from the village people,
but if there is an issue, im more likely to be able to get up after it.
leather is your sacrificial skin to save your real skin!

dont skimp on safety equipment, you usually only have to buy it once anyway.
i saw nice used leathers on ebay and market place cheap.

congrats on the new bike!
enjoy

Thanks for the welcome everyone. My rear brake switch stopped working but was a much simpler fix than anticipated.

I'm lucky enough to have a business complex down the road with the perfect parking lot for practice, as far as length, shape, and has lights. I don't have to deal with any major roads, traffic, or lights on my way there and it's a ghost town when I get out of work. So I've been practicing as much as I can, especially low-speed maneuvers.

Everyone have a great day, ride safe, and have fun!

~Joey
