Default lithium battery

I went and bought a lithium battery for my '12 custom. I weighs next to nothing compared to the one it replaced. It feels like an empty box. Have to give it the acid test this aft.

How well do those fit in the compartment? As in securing them without moving around?

No issues there. Of course the negative lead is so short, it can be a pain to get attached to the battery. But the battery fits like a glove in the compartment; no movement when properly installed.

So its the same size?
You can fix that negative cable issue by running it over the top and connecting by the primary where all the grounds connect to. This is a better location anyway. Use 2 or 4 gauge cable cut to the needed length and solder copper ends on. Much better grounding and eliminates any issues current or future. Way easier to connect to the battery too.

I think I should look into that.

No I did not. I am believing that these batteries will not dis-charge while sitting idle over the winter months. I do plan on pulling the max fuse to eliminate any current draw. Your price sounds about right for the two items.

Now that the price has come down, I’ve installed a lithium battery in one of my bikes. So far it’s good. I left the cover off for the first ride to see if the battery got hot. No issue there.

The battery I bought was shorter and I had to put a spacer under it. I used a block of rigid 2” packing foam for the spacer.

The low amp lithium chargers have come down in price too.

I installed a Shorai battery Jan 2014. Works great. Never had to charge it. It came with sheets of foam to help fit it in the battery compartment. Weighs about 2lb.

I swapped to an earthx lithium when my factory battery died. I weighed the factory battery at 11lbs...the earthx didn't even register 1lb it really does just feel like an empty box. In my case the earthx was a lot shorter so I made a toolbox for underneath that the shorter battery could sit on. It cranks better than new. Here's the box i made so you can see how much shorter it was: https://photos.app.goo.gl/htYM26H4rNkmLPBx7
