Made it to the eastern edge...
...of the Great Smokey Mountains in North Carolina. About 400 miles. Met up with two of my three sons, had a good dinner and some great laughs. Maggie Valley is beautiful. Looking forward to riding through the mountains tomorrow on my way to Knoxville, and maybe on to Nashville. (Not so many trucks, like I-40 -- just beautiful scenery.) I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow night.
Sleep time!

Two Blues Brothers Met Me...
in Maggie Valley (my oldest son was on vacation)...
We stayed at the Best Western, along with a few other Harley owners...
The view from the motel balcony was nice...
But it didn't compare to the ride through the Smokey Mountains...
The roads through the mountains slowed me down a bit, but the mountain views were worth it... and there's a beautiful stream next to the road that seems to follow all the way up and down Route 441. I was surprised that so few people were on the roads... no traffic jams... might be the price of gas.
I only travelled about 300 miles today. Total for first two days is 706. (It's official... I'm never going to qualify for the Iron Butt.)

Thanks for the notes of encouragement, guys...
...funny thing happened last night... I hope it still seems funny when I try to start the bike this morning...
I went out to take the Airhawk cover off the bike and check the mileage. I came back in, and a good while later I got a call from the front desk... telling me that the light on my bike was still on!

Yep, I left the key in it, walked away, and forgot about it... another sign that I just might be getting too old for this sort of thing...

...or maybe I should look at it this way... Someone was looking out for me... when I got here I parked in the only parking space that made my bike face directly at a little window that the desk clerk looks out of... and the clerk was an angel who called my room and told me that my light was still on...
