Friction.

The seal body is tight onto the guide.
The seal lip has light pressure on the valve stem.

Maxeffort n 60Gunner thanks. I tried a dry fit just a bit and it looks and feels like it will push on with some slight force and not pull off. I'll push them on dry after I seat the valves and clean the head. Still my brain is troubled but trusting both your experience. thanks again.

Agree, Once they are fitted its not like they are subject to heavy loads or stress. The valve stem is oiled and just slides up and down within the seal. Folks may be over thinking this a bit.

thanks. Its a hard concept to get a grip on coming from tapping down the OEM seals. Almost done lapping the valves and I'm gonna put it all back together.
