Yep, I'm knee deep in research at the moment too.
I'll get around to something soon but right now I'm trying to finish some things.
Starting things are easy, finishing them is harder.

I am neck deep in it right now. I was remodeling my kitchen, with custom built cabinets and stove, when a frigging hurricane came through here and stopped everything for a week without power, then another week to get the roads cleared. We got miles and miles of fence line, as well as roads that have to be kept open on the property. Still ain't got back to the kitchen, but the stove I built is complete and in service. Just finished up an outdoor cooker built from 60 or 70 year old Gas-Tobac tobacco barn cookers. I have always kept 4 or 5 projects going, but with the backlog for parts and hardware that came on (un-neccessarily) with Covid Chaos, I ended up with more like 10 projects going and 9 of them were waiting on parts or hardware. There is still some kinks in the shipping system. I think the main kink is in D.C. but I won't go into politics, even though it affects being able to complete work.

That's OK, plenty of room for it right there. Got a restaurant style 2 burner gas stove top with two different power burners on it, installed in stainless steel table. I lowered it down because I can't stand up long enough to do much cooking, so it is at 2 feet off the floor so grease ain't popping in my face trying to fry bacon sitting in a wheel chair. I don't get around too good no more.
I drew a 51 tooth gear, sprocket, whatever you want it to be, with inkscape. It is really a 51 point star that I shortened the points and rounded them over. Takes 2 minutes, maybe to draw it. I took a screen shot of the entire Inkscape screen so you can see what is available to use there. You might need to zoom it up to see much. The icons on the very top line, right side are not part of Inkscape, that is the basic funtion controls and program menu for my laptop.

That's nice to know.
I'm not reinventing the wheel (or gear). Just trying to helpful on what they do.
Another reason the Gimp thing I was talking about was just too much right now.
With everything that is NOT in Sportsterpedia, I kinda sorta felt I was spinning wheels making the tranny animation as long as it took.
So much to do, so little time. I still feel like we just started this a year ago.....
Anyways,
I'm gonna pull off the ratio page for a while.
Most everything there is basically math and physics and I've had enough for now.
But, questions still float for me so I'll get back to it soon.
I'll post the link to what's there (used some screenshots from the tranny gif.
Calculating Gear Ratios:
http://www.sportsterpedia.com/doku.p...ref:svcproc11k
The page shows how to get the ratios found in the FSM.
Maybe it's helpful some. Please feel free to critique.

The gear ratio page looks good. It doesn't have to be in motion to get the information on ratio across.
I been posting my distractions on the random image thread so I don't get you off course with your goals. Been having to sit by thephone for hours waiting on a call. Usually I wouldn't bother with it, and they could leave a message, but this one, I needed to get settled. Figured out the Inkscape rotaions, skew, and stretch functoions waiting for the call. It has some nice tools. Easy to use once you get their method down in your head.
Back to work now............ Phone call was a winner..............

I get distracted easy.
I was researching gear dog pics and came across other pics that I kept in mind for later.
So now I am preparing pics for the tools page (found most likely the original Mity-Vac? for a Tillotson carb leak test).
edit: Nope, this one pressurizes while the Mity-vac creates suction.
Gathering it now, but before that ran across some pics of a few fittings we didn't have, added them, ran across pics of a L1973-1978 oil tank, added those, had to contact the owner of the bulb tester pics to see if he'd OK the use of his pics, he did, and that's just an average day.
So I get a lot done but at the end of the day...… what did I do again? Can't remember...
edit:
I've added the bulb type pressure tester off the TOOLS page. It is referenced in TSB #564 as a leak tester for Tillotson inlet seats.
