Always a must... I wish I knew a guy who could do the work and know where to get the parts from.

Where in Northern PA are you? I'm heading down to Reading, PA for a BIG ride in honor of that cop who was killed 3 years ago. The guy was a friend and my roommates brother in the Corps. I go every year. We have about 300 to 600 Harleys show each year.

Scranton area... 100+ miles from Reading I think.
Is that ride this weekend?

I did the Ride for Diane the last couple years... average attendance 700 bikes/1200 people, it is scheduled for this upcomming Sunday the 27th. When I went in 2006, it was my first-ever benefit ride (I didn't know what to expect), and that in itself made the experience worthwhile. Last year, however, I became acutely aware of a significant amount of alcohol consumption in the parking lot before the ride even left. I did the first half of the ride (which lasted all of 35 minutes at 10-20mph), only to stop and see more beers being tipped... I left, drinking and riding isn't my scene.

I'll be staying in Hamburg, PA, right next to Cabela's, August 2nd and 3rd. The ride is the 3rd of August at 12:00pm, starting in the parking lot of Classic Harley Davidson. No drinking here... It's a humbling experience. 60% of the riders are cops...

We ride through the street Officer Scott Wertz was gunned down while chasing a suspect. The family goes to the exact location on the road, while the rest of us bikers sit and watch (very emotional moment). Then we start our engines and rev them until the entire block starts to shake. Wake up time for the folks in that area. (It's a low class area of drug dealers and gangs, but with 300 cops on the bikes, nobody says shit. It is very moving.

We then ride to Beverly Hill's Tavern for a meet and greet with the family and other riders. Food and drinks are served. You meet a lot of great people. Registration includes t-shirt, ride, lunch (pig roast at Beverly Hills Tavern), non-alcoholic beverage, and entertainment (Fish Killers - classic rock band).

If you check the link, I'm the 2nd bike on the left. I have the widows son on my bike. The widow and her brother inlaw are riding front left on the victims Harley. On the right is my roommate fro the Marines and also the widow's brother, who is riding with the widow's other son.

I'd love to ride with you if you come.
