Ironhead starter housing missing shifter collar?
Hey guys, I'm taking apart my starter housing and I noticed that I am completely missing the shifter collar (21) that normally sits directly behind the pinion gear (20). Because of this, it looks like the solenoid shifter lever (25) just pushes on the back of the pinion gear assembly, instead of having a shifter collar that containes the two grips of the shift lever. Is this a problem? What is the function of the shifter collar? Is it to keep the push consistent? And why would it work fine without one? And another question, when I move that pinion gear, it doesn't have anything to pull it back towards the starter, what normally causes that pinion gear to return after the start?
Thanks for the help
