Default The Black Dog

This short video explains far better than I can what I've been going through for the past 15 or so years up until I had my major 'melt-down' about 4 years ago.

The book that this is based on was a real help in me getting my life back together and I can now confidently say I'm in a better place than I can ever remember being.

So, for anyone who may have depression, thinks that they may have depression, or would like to know what having depression is like..... then the 4:19 minutes spent watching this video will be time very well spent.

Oh! And if you ever hear someone say "snap our of it" or "cheer up".... then give them a big slap, please.

I Had A Black Dog

Damn , I thought it was about the old trucker legend, if the Black dog runs in front of you you will die!

I'm sorry you're depressed, but that video sounds like a drug ad.

My black dog comes around this time every year.Part of it stems from my childhood but most I think is because like he said exercise is the key to tiring out the BG.I can't get out like I should during the winter months,my bones can't take the cold no more.
Trying to find something to divert my stinking thinking into a positive thought is very difficult somedays but I'm not hiding in a bottle or pipe anymore.
Thanks for that video.

I think you've missed the point there, Brian. I'm not (anymore) and that video couldn't be less like a drug ad.

Thanks for that video.
Mine is also worse this time of year. I spend 1 hour each morning (October to March) sitting right next to a very bright light (while browsing the xlf) and that helps. It's not too cold for getting out for a brisk walk most days (it is too wet though - this is England after all) and I've got a pair of dumb-bells to throw around.

An excercise bike and some weights, perhaps? Put some loud music on and have a 45min indoor work-out? I find that getting into a routine is really important.

This an excellent book: Quiet The Mind, (by the same author as the video) and even though it took me many months of 'training', I now find that the Mindfulness techniques I've learnt from it really, really help. I can 'quiet my mind' in a few minutes when I feel the waves of anxiety and worry approaching.

The book "Mind over Mood" was instrumental in my personal turn around. Still suffer from the effects of SAD at this time of year.
