Awesome!

I won't lie...I've logged on about everyday looking for this, but understand that you do have a business to run and put food on the table.

I've been running the 26 disc setup and looks like I need to bump it to 30.

btw, the extra disc kit does include longer bolts.

I'll take the 3hp loss on top (where I rarely spin it too) in exchange for the reasonable sound level!

Thanks Again!

Can we get pics and a vid? I've always been a big fan of Supertrapp and have considered swapping out my Patriot for one to get a longer pipe to get the sound more behind me, along with better sound tuning ability since the Patriot sucks in any position other than open.

Thanks for testing the pipe for the xlforum and I Aaron. Looks like i will be using the 30 disc setup. Will have to find some longer bolts for it. The torque curve does look good. Im surprised how long it holds that 80 mark for. Do you think that the older style solid mount version being turned upwards would have any different results?

If you get a chance could you overlay the comparison of the 30 disc with your results on the thunderheader only because that is what i am.runnimg now. Looks like the supertrapp is a better performer all around over the thunderheader even though it pushed out 3 more lb's of torque in the middle.

Thanks again for your time and work with doing all the testing you have done. It is very much appreciated.

Thanks for the testing, Aaron. I recall a series of pulls you did some time ago, where you tested from 12 to 26 discs and were running out of gains. I'm assuming that was on a 1200, and it's interesting to see how a 1250 benefits from even more discs.

I have, I believe, 24 discs in mine at the moment, and a few more in a drawer somewhere - looks like I'll have to try them. I love the Supertrapp, but, as mentioned previously, all those discs add a lot of weight to the end of the muffler, causing it to oscillate badly at certain revs. Mine is currently waiting to be welded again - this time it ripped the side out of the muffler as the mounting tab welds failed. Grinding the head of the baffle retaining bolt on right-handers probably doesn't help.

The vibration was one of the reasons (the other being sound) that I fitted an open end cap, so I could lose 10 discs as advised by Supertrapp. You may recall the result - a big dip in the torque curve in the midrange.

Thanks for sending the pipe Mike!

Question for you: would you like a full map for 30 discs, and if so, can we keep the pipe another week?

I only did a full remap for 25 discs ...

(actual pic from the 25 disc mapping process ... that's as thorough as I can do it! those cells in the lower left are about impossible to hit)

For the 20 and 30 disc configurations, I cut a corner in the interest of time and I only remapped the right 3 columns, and I used the 25 disc map for the rest of it. If you're going to run 30 discs, I'd be happy to do the full map. But I hate doing this during work hours because HAMMER Dan is on the phone so much, and he can't talk on the phone while I'm tuning a bike. So I'd like to wait until Saturday, which means your pipe will ship back next week instead of this week. If you'd like us to ship the pipe back this week instead just let me know, the map I have won't be bad at all, it's just a full map would be better. Your choice.

With respect to the Theader/Supertrapp comparison, I'll put it together, but you gotta understand, you really shouldn't be comparing those two pulls. The bike was much stronger when the Thunderheader was tested, I've since hurt the motor and it's down probably 3-4hp from what it was back then (I haven't yet leaked it to see what's hurt). The T-header pulls were all 5th gear and these pulls were all 4th gear, too, and that makes a 1-2hp difference. And finally, I tested the Theader in the winter and now it's summer. Really, the only time you should ever compare two dyno sheets is when they're done same day.

But if you understand how invalid the whole comparison is, well, here you go ...

Y'know, you make a good point, I really shouldn't extrapolate past results, since this motor is a totally different configuration. If I can scare up an open cap (I might have one or HAMMER Dan might have one), I'll see if I can test it. My past experience playing with open Supertrapp end caps on the dyno has always told me it's a bad idea, but that doesn't mean it's a bad idea for this motor.

He has a 2002, so I'm guessing it probably doesn't matter? But, the full screen on the PV is impressive! Showoff!!

Why do a leak down? Wouldn't a teardown be more conclusive and necessary anyway?

Wouldn't an end cap open just make the configuration similar to the Patriot or T-header with an internal baffle and open end?

And your dyno sheet overlay- are you insinuating that the Supertrapp would make more power if tested under the same circumstances as the T-header? Meaning, as good or better than the Patriot?

Actually, that test was done on an 04 883/1250, that wasn't nearly as hot as this motor. Same pipe but it had no O2 sensor bungs. That was a long day of testing! Lemmee see if I can find it ... here we go ...

It's a little hard to see because there are so many lines, but if you look at the far left, at the blue line (26 discs), you start to see the reversion coming in. Overall, I'd say it's pretty consistent with what I saw on the shop mule, the only difference being that fewer discs seemed to hurt the top end more on the first test.

Yikes! My aforementioned 04 883/1250 never had that issue and it had 26, but I didn't put all that many miles on it either.
