I would have both a helmet and a wind screen/faring, but am not a fan of full-face. If you do any significant time on the interstates, wind buffeting/fatigue is greatly reduced with a wind screen. I'm with ochog1...cool is less of an issue for us old folk

I wear a Speed/Strength halfie with a flip-down/tinted insert when I wear one...it allows for smokes on long hauls...risk x2

For me, it's got nothing to do with looking cool; I don't give a stuff about that (it'd be a lost cause anyway ).

I like riding without a windshield. I have tried various screens, and they have all, to a greater or lesser extent, made riding uncomfortable or unpleasant.

I do have a full face, just for riding the trаil bike 'off road' (legal, but unsurfaced, tracks). I must say that I quite like it; it's got great, and adjustable, ventilation.

for some years used the Hugger as it were a car...
i used her for anything leaving the car in the garage...
bought the Hugger with oem bags and windshield (like that of yours US Police highway patrol)...
i admit it was useful... especially on trafficated roads...
it bounded well with the buckhorn handlebar stock on the 2001 Hugger...

then some years later i swapped both the windshiled and the buckhorn for a fairing and a standard 883 handlebar...

i was more confident so... i have an advanced riding style... i mean... i like to put some weight on the wrists and on the front wheel... the buckhorn-windshield couple had done their course....

Shoei GT Air, light, quiet,comfy, vents for hot weather & the flip down sun visor saved me a fortune in lost sunglasses. It's also much more convenient to flip it up or down rather than stopping to take sun glasses off.
When it comes to screens count me out. 40 years ago my bike was an export Triumph Bonneville, I swapped bikes with a guy at work during our lunch break, he'd just got a BMW R75 from an older guy who gave up riding. The BMW had crash bars & a touring screen just tall enough to send the wind to my head. Suddenly a gust of wind caught behind the screen scaring the life out of me as the bike shook itself.

I choose the FF over the windshield. However, I will always have both. For those of you who don't like the windshield, that's fine as long as you have tried riding with and without one on the same bike. I find that riding over 50 mph without the windshield is exhausting. The wind beats me to death while turning my body into a drag-chute. There's a reason the full size touring bikes of all brands come with a windshield with or without a fairing.
I have the H-D clip-on windshield on my Sporty that is full-width but is shorter than the standard one of the same clip-on style and I love it. However, I'm only 5'7"; anyone taller may want the full height.
The clip-on feature is excellent for those who want to cruise Main Street or ride in a parade at low speeds because the hardware comes off the bike with the windshield. It goes on or comes off in a couple minutes with no tools.

+1 Most of the +70K miles I’ve put on my two Sportsters (‘98 XLH1200, ‘15 XL1200CP) have been with the Harley-Davidson Convertible windshield installed. The windshield has been the difference between comfortable 300-mile days and comfortable 900-mile days. The rain and bug protection are bonuses.

I’m 5’9”, but with only a 30” inseam, I “sit taller” than I stand. With my HJC full-face, no buffeting behind the Convertible.
