Tank Vent/Evap Line
The elbow on the tank vent line was missing when I got this 1996 1200, dealership says it's a discontinued part and I have not been able to find one elsewhere.
would 1/4 fuel line routed i straight down beside carb work ?
Gonna try to figure out how to post pics to make it clearer on what I am asking.

If it's not in line with the drawing below, then yes more info needed.
The oil tank vent fitting at the cam cover (shown straight on the drawing below) is a 90 deg 1/8" NPT to 1/4" hose barb.
Should be an upgraded part number at HD.
Here's the fittings page in Sportsterpedia.

I used fuel line on most of my rubbers hoses.

Sure it would. Just for peace of mind, you can run a short section of that 1/4" line, then brass/ABS 90 degree elbow and follow up with longer line to wherever you want it to drip, away from hot exhaust pipes and engine.

That's your fuel tank vent. Use appropriate id (auto parts store) vacuum hose (it's more flexible and smaller od) and run it down behind the transmission below the frame rails.
