To me that says that the gauge is mounted on the rear rocker cover; not necessarily that it's plumbed in there.

Are we sure that this gauge is reading the pressure at the rocker box? Could it be on a line that's screwed into the oil pressure light switch hole, like the pic in Hippysmack's post?

I put an oil pressure gauge on my '05 (very different, I know) in that way (kept the switch too, using an adaptor), but the gauge was mounted on a bracket on the rear rocker cover.

You're not running but 3-7 psi at hot idle in the bottom of that engine.
The restriction as bustert mentioned is smaller to the crank and it sees more pressure readings than the top does.
Same in Evos but different as you mentioned Folkie.
Be careful not mistake psi readings as oil flow since they are separate but mingled ideas.
Another topic though.




There are generally 2 locations on the IH rocker box you can install a gauge.
So, technically, either will/should pick up a flow pressure but it's just such a small amount for 60 lb gauge.

One is at that plugged hole in this pic.



The oil is routed thru the rocker arm studs and this one (second way) is plumbed with a hollow bolt to the gauge.



Edit:
Just make a conscience effort to look in the tank ever now and then to make sure oil is returning to it.
And check psi at the oil switch.
The switch can go bad even though you have plenty of oil.
The switch can also stay off even if you don't have any oil if the check valve is locked shut.
Lots of things to think about and with most of them, you can settle your mind somewhat at least by checking the tank for return oil.

It's a flow system not a pressure system hence the oil switch; it's wet then good to go.

that is what I am trying to say if you have flow that's all you need.oil flowing threw the system otherwise you have more than likely a sheered keyway on the oil pump
