Default 2009 883

A coworker has a 2009 XLC-883 that he just pulled out of storage.

I used to have a 2009 XR1200, and about 3 years ago I bought a 2003 XLH-1200 Anniversary Sportster. In the lower RPM range, the 2003 feels like it pulls about like the XR1200 did when it was stock.

Back to the 883. He got 57 miles on it when he bought it, and then he fell over at a low-speed turn and cracked his ankle. That was when he stored it. So it sat there for 11 years. After we put a new battery on it, aired up the tires, scrubbed out the gas tank and got a new fuel filter, it was running.

He was scared to ride it when we got it running, so I took it for a 5 mile spin. I admit that I was a little curious about the power of the 883 engine.

I've got to say that I was impressed. There's no tachometer, but I think that I kept it under 4000 RPM because the engine is still in its break-in period.

That 883 is quicker than my 1200. What the heck? I had to run the VIN to make sure the engine size was right.

Is my 1200 just a lot slower than a decent 1200 or is the 883 quicker than people say?

Your XLH is a carburated bike, the XLC is an EFI bike.

I don't know if this site is correct but if you compare these bikes there is a difference of 10 HP difference in favour of....the 883

1200

883

Your 1200 is lighter and has more torque.

883 is about 45 HP but is geared lower than a 1200 bike
