I use them for parts when I have to but they never seem to stock anything I need and it takes a week to get it. I can order online or on the phone elsewhere and have it at my door in 2 or 3 days tops usually.
Bottom line is I have very little use for the dealer.

they're friendly.....they're helpful selling you stuff.......

they charge for parts they don't install and labor they don't perform....$90 per hr.

lesson learned.....it's 2019, not 1979

Bought my 883R from the dealer. thought I'd get a red hot deal with no p/x paying cash, no chance! I found them OK & friendly, had the servicing done there while under warranty, expensive but done well. It's got a good diner & Tshirt, bandana etc selection for sale. The old style dealers (for any make of bike) have long since gone, replaced by the "boutique" type shops. For many years the only HD dealer in the UK was Warrs of London. As late as the 70s it was a corner shop type building

I don’t use them to any significant extent.

I test-rode a XR1200 at the Stratstone dealer in 2017 but couldn’t agree a price. Apart from that I occasionally buy t-shirts in my travels but as I don’t do “skulls and flames” I haven’t bought one lately.

Parts I buy online or by personal contacts.

Oh, and “as late as the 70s” was forty-odd years ago! I last went in the “old” Warrs when I bought a 45 in the late 70s....

Default Boswell's in Nashville

They're really into what they do and have everyone on point when it comes to customer service. I buy bikes and some parts there, and let them do some service work, especially on my EVO bike.

Sheldons is the local. I buy a few parts and gear. The parts counter people I've dealt with are very good, helpful and friendly. They often have to order the parts for a rigid EVO. They will research stuff, follow up with a phone call. They are much better than the local multi brand import dealer.

For some items, they are less than aftermarket for genuine HD.

I live close to two H-D dealerships, one Euro dealership and one metric dealership. This does not include the local motorcycle repairman/used bike sales who is great. The metric dealership is very snobbish, the Euro dealership is not quite so bad and both H-D dealerships are extremely friendly and down to earth, ready to help but not so pushy.
I haven't bought a new motorcycle in my life but I am very happy with the little bit of help I've needed from both of the H-D dealerships, one of which has regular Saturday morning coffee & doughnuts fellowships, group rides, swap meets and hosts HOG activities.

Motor City HD in Farmington Hills, MI. I had originally bought my first Harley there because my uncle had said such good things about them. Needless to say that the process was good all up til I got into signing my paperwork and that is when all the mysterious fees had started to appear. Not to mention that unless I ride up there, I can never receive a call back from anyone on their staff.

Wow! I always get call backs when I need them and when they have demo days I get an email afterwards asking for a survey. I even bought an old Honda Shadow from one of the Harley dealerships and they treated me like I had bought a new Road King. Maybe it's the southern hospitality. Anyway, these guys want repeat sales and service.
