I'll be 54 in july, been married since 82, three son's 5 grandkids, started riding dirt bikes at 8 years old and have had many Triumphs, Hondas, 59 Panhead, and now a 79 XLCH and a 81 XLH. Ironheads are like the old Panhead's. They have a soul.

I'm 63 be 64 in Sept.Rode since about 13 1st was Allstate Compact scooter.Made myself a promise if I made it home from Vietnam I'd buy me a Harley.So in 74 I got me a new 74 XLCH $2600.tax title and finance.1 wife divorce in 98 and now just move em in and out.

Looks like so far the average age is running about 53. Bunch of gray hairs around here.

Thanks for the replies guys, keep em coming, I find it interesting that for the older crowd 60+ most grew up with these bikes.

I'm 63 and still have a soft spot in my brain for Ironheads and Panheads. I'm always looking on Craigslist at them. Sold my last IH a decade ago.

Gonna raise that average a bit Simeli, I'm 62 and yes, greying, and have a 1960 xlch. I was introduced to sportsters when I was a teenager by my girlfriend's brother (now my brother in law) and his riding buddy Desh aka David at Morris magnetos. At 16 years old and hearing those machines pull into the driveway, it was irresistible.

52 years old, one wife of nineteen years. My first bike was a 1957 Norton Dominator, followed by a bunch of british iron and a lone Moto Guzzi Lemans. Never bought a bike that ran until my 1972 XLCH which sheared the woodruff key in the oil pump and seized up on the way home. I still have it twenty one years later and she gets better with age.

pumping gas as I teen I salivated over the sportsters, triumphs and bsas that would go by or pull in. occasional Norton and enfield. there was a light and then an uphill stretch right there and the sounds of them going up the hill music to my ears. most of the sportsters would throw a puff of smoke on the upshift and I loved it. you had to know how to get your bike home and everyone that rode could make roadside repairs. then came the electric starter on everything, Honda 750, kaw 900. bikes became reliable so that everyone could have one. no longer did riders have as much in common. but most of the new bikes had no soul and I could care less about looking at them or hearing them. owning one of them is like owning a car. just transportation. people have changed. they are addicted to cell phones and automatic transmissions and I really think it is becos they need a free hand for the damned phone. they don't know how to fix anything, eat all processed food, don't know how to hunt and forage. play video games instead of actually doing something. I remember the Harley shop in Bridgeport, old wooden floors, panheads , shovelheads and sportsters. real stuff hanging on the walls, not those clothing stores they have today with all their ridiculous bolt on crap. and don't get me started on the fg ethanol. I am 63, refuse to carry a cell phone, car and trucks all standard trans and I wont own an automatic trans. just bought another ironhead that isn't running to use while the other one is apart and not running, seemed logical to me.

You guys make me feel like such a new guy to the ironheads. Some of you remember when these bikes were in the show rooms and have been wrenching longer than I have been alive.
That being said I plan on still riding and wrenching 20-30+ years from now.

nothing wrong with 61 simeli.
turned 64 and still ride the hell out of my machines, wife been trying to get me to get rid of them, hospital visits aren't her bag. when she starts, I say if get rid of them and get an airplane and that stops the conversation. she says I can have them til 70 but she threatened to bury my guns but hasn't been done so yet, guess she means when I go, so they will have to melt.
the Honda is nice but is it a 350 or a 305 cl. do not remember a 350 having a centrifuge.
oops, tunnel vision, looking at clutch case. that was the first year run I believe, the 305 ended in 68 I believe. when Honda came out with the 350, they cheapened the engine a whole bunch, even so, still was dependable. the 305 was canted forward and was more rectangular. I had a 1966 cl77 and it was a great machine but a thorn in my side, built it too much and was not dependable.
