Default Ultima electronic ignition installation

I figured out my issues, so this post is no longer needed.

It seems a shame to waste a perfectly good thread. I am interested in Ultima threads, and have read most and printed out several.

I would be interested in your issue and your solving of it.

Okay. Being the idiot that I am, I was trying to mount the module on top of the posts, where the cover normally goes. The ears on the back of the module weren't getting anywhere near the rotor. I watched a couple of videos on Youtube and figured it out. They also told me which way to rotate the module since it mounts sideways instead of vertically.

As long as I have everyone's attention, I take it I am supposed to cut the supplied spark plug wire and attach the terminals to attach them to the coil.

I don't see how they work. It looks like one just crimps them onto the wire, but I don't see any way for the spark voltage to get to the terminals.

Oh, I rotated the engine to what seems to be TDC and there is a mark in the inspection hole - a small, shallow hole. A dot, if you will. Is this TDC? It is a '74 XLH. I assume it has the original crankshaft, but really have no way of knowing because I only know the previous owner. I have no idea who owned it before that.

I don't have a timing light or a tach.

Thanks. We learn from things that seem boneheaded to us after the fact, but helping others avoid doing the same thing keeps more of these babies on rhe road where they belong.

While the thread is alive. (Save me doing the research please).

What's consensus on the best electronic ignition system to buy for a hot rid street engine ?

Mate want s to know. I only do 900 engines and Mallory's 472 (or whatever that number is) is the one to buy from what I know.

So, Ultima ? Dyna ? Crane ?

He will want the nest regardless of price.

Daytona twin tech! I have sold and installed them for several years with zero problems! Yeah, they are not the cheapest, but they are worth it.

"Everybody" uses the Ultima.

If you have or have had teen age children then you are familiar with the statistical concept of "everybody".
