Default Gas flow - overflow tube

New issue - steady flow of gas from run off tube at bottom of carb on my 83xlx whether on run or reserve on petcock. And I mean steady flow!!
Shakes Dave - is this your warning to get a Pingel haunting me??

Float or needle related, not the petcock. Pull the bowl, check the seat on the float needle. If that's worn out, you need a new one. Check that the float actually floats as well. If it's cracked or has a hole in it, it'll just fill with gas and stay down. If it doesn't seat or the float doesn't actually float, the gas just keeps flowing until you fix it or you're out of gas.

You might want to carry a small fire extinguisher until you are SURE you have that fixed...had a float problem on my Norton and it caught fire (got lucky and was able to put it out with my gloves but easily could have lost the bike)
