Would my battery not being charged by the motor cause these same issues?

It certainly doesn’t help, but I don’t think so. If your battery got weak enough from not charging to die on you after 15 minutes of riding, then it likely wouldn’t start back at all.

I had the identical problem with my old '59 CH a few years ago. it would cut out after apprx 10-15 minutes of riding. It was the coil. When the coil heated up, it cut out. After cooling down, it would start right up and run great until the next 15 mnutes on the road.

One way to test for overheated failing electrical components is to dump "canned air" onto the piece. Hold the can upside down and spray enough to chill the part. Then see if the bike restarts. Continue to the next component until the problem is isolated.

I had this with my 1978. It would stall when I stopped at a stop sign. It would then start again if I waited 10 minutes for it to cool down.

Went to the shop, picked up new coil, installed it at home, problem permanently solved
