Default Carb Issues Really Need a Hand

Okay guys did the search thing and read all the old threads but none really gave me the confindence that they where what I needed. My 04 883c has screaming eagle 2 slip ons, they where on it when I bought it dont know if the jets were changed. The bike runs good with the choke out, but when warm it wont idle with the choke in. At highway speed or in town when on the throttle its all good. Just when I brake I must pull the choke 3/4 of the ways out for the bike to run. Jet problem or somthing else. Really need a hand driving me nuts.

Sounds like the pilot jet could be plugged up or possibly a intake manifold leak.

start with the mixture screw, it can be tough to dial in i'm constantly fiddling with it going from running fat after warmed up, to stalling out when first started.

if you follow this:

http://www.sportster.org/tech/carb/rejetting.shtml

it will give you an idea of what to start looking at.

if you need to choke the bike out in order to not stall even after warmed up you probably need to rejet the carb or you could have a leak somewhere. but start with the idle mixture screw and see if opening it a turn or two can eleviate the issue.

also does the bike have a stock A/C or high performance A/C?

With the bike running, spray some WD-40 around the intake seals. If the engine RPMs change, you have an intake leak.

Agreed on the idle mixture screw, but I always check the intake first. Propane works to check for leaks too and won't make a mess.
You know, the idle could just be set too low...if it does everything else correctly but idle, bump it up a little.

If you don't find an intake leak, get a can of carb cleaner with a spray nozzle. Remove the idle mixture screw and clean it off with a soft cloth and some carb cleaner. Then take the nozzle of the carb cleaner and blast out the hole that the idle screw goes in. Then replace the idle mixture screw and adjust your idle mixture.
