You would be surprised what local locksmiths have in their drawers.... I needed a key cut for my 06 Big Dog (also American)... went to nearest big towns/cities with no luck... one day I rode past my local locksmith... small town (10,000 population)... hey, why not... the guy look at the key, mumbles something, opens a drawer and voila!!! had 3 keys cut in 10 mins.

This is the issue

Quote:

Hi Neil, this is Bobby from Brown's Harley-Davidson Parts Department
I looked up your VIN and it's coming up with a 5 digit key code.
Normally the key code would be 4 digits and we could order the key cut to match, however since the bike is not a Canadian model, and was originally shipped to the U.K., the key code for the bike is a 5 digit number, and for some odd reason it does not show up as a valid to order.
We have emailed our representatives down in the U.S. and we're just waiting for a response.
The VIN is a 1HD series which shows as manufactured for USA,... so U.K. Harley say they can’t help.
Browns in Canada say it is U.K... so they have the issue to, but they have tried to help by contacting their Rep in USA

I used Browns in Mississauga, Canada as they are the closest dealer to my cousins who I am visiting later this year... if possible.

I can try the shop I use. Maybe Brad can help me find a key blank. PM me the vin and I will see. I know, from experience, they won't order me a key without proof of ownership.

Did you check on the key I posted above???

No matter what you've been told, look at that key - You'll see the cut looks like it is the right one...

Hi , oh sorry I never replied ...busy at work. As the lock down has eased a bit and a few patients that had not major urgent operations int he UK re scheduled we have been doing many many flights to and from the island to England.

Yes, i did look, and yes picture looks right, even the 90 number, but the photo does have the usual disclaimer ( Picture may vary from actual product )...so i phone them and left a message..but not had a reply yet.

My Local dealer page shows that part as No longer available.

I have pulled all the p/n's now from the 92-93-94 parts manuals..

71425-77 key set for this lock 71451-18

key set…71451-78 used with 71425-77

71441-94 replaces 71425-77 uses key set 71451-94A

All those changes may be in key style - and not in key fitting the lock. That's why I looked particularly at the key slot and key teeth to see if they looked compatible - which they do.

Other key part numbers may also have the right slot & teeth to be compatible - but you're likely going to have to buy & hope or make a trip to where the key is to see if it is a match with your current key.

As you already mentioned, your fallback position is to replace the switch itself with one with extra keys.

Are any HD dealers convenient enough to actually visit and see the blank keys they have (irrelevant of what it is SUPPOSED to work with) in order to find a matching fit?
