For some reason it shows Zach's folder in the title bar, but it was my dyno and in my folder. We were previously comparing my dyno to Zach's stock '09, which was a stout 90 RWHP, but I didn't get a picture of that.

I think we have some more dynos coming up next weekend, and Zach loaned me an ECMspy cable, so I'm going to play with it a bit, raise my rev limiter, and see if I can add a little more fuel at cruising cadence, and re-dyno the bike soon. I should be able to get a few more HP with a higher limiter.

This engine is so smooth it is unbelievable. Absolutely no sputters at any rpms. It just keeps climbing in hp. With a better exhaust (this bike still has the stock exhaust!) and set the rev limiter a bit higher I think it would easily hit 105.

I hooked the actuator back up and reset the TPS. Without dynoing it again yet, it's hard to tell, but the race map doesn't feel nearly as much of a perfect fit as with the valve tied open, probably because the race map is for the race muffler, which doesn't have the valve. So once I get some dyno time on it to get a better idea of what it's doing, I'll play with the map to fine tune it to use with the valve active. Tuning with the active valve will give me a lot more midrange torque boost than I could ever see in power gains up top with a custom exhaust, so I will probably stick with the stock exhaust as it's pretty damn good. I will still raise the rev limiter though before my next dyno session, so I can see what the power peaks at, as up top is not different than before.

I've thought about it, but it would take a lot of R&D to get it sorted. I may try it in the future though, using a stock muffler as a core, to get a functional valve.

Big Ugly is going bigger! I just ordered new springs, lifters, shorter pushrods, and 1.900" intake valves. Gonna go bigger in the intakes and deck the heads a bit more, since my compression isn't as high as I'd like. Will eventually dyno with both stock and race muffler. It may cost some bottom end, but I'm going to tie the valve open again for ease in tuning. The race map just isn't a great fit for the stock muffler, at least not with the other mods I have. I'm also going to keep playing with ECMspy until I can get the higher rev limiter to stick; it didn't the last time I tried, but I may have switched maps by accident at the time.

I don't think the custom muffler would be as difficult as you figure. I modified a can muffler that was on my neighbor's '91 ninja. It was a perforated core with fiberglass wrapping. I cut the front half of the core into segment and made a plate and washer set up for it that kept the area of the perf pipes holes the same as the inlet pipe. The back section got a loose layer of glass reinstalled. His was a slip fit with an aluminum shell and he said it performs at least as good as before and now sounded a lot like a Ferrari.
