Be sure to protect the end of pinion shaft when using that one.

Yeah I covered it with a rag. Mine just needed a little nudge with a similar puller. I just steadied the puller with one hand and turned it with the other. Didn't take much at all.

As the guys said make sure you protect the gear. If it slips just a little bit you are prone to breaking teeth off.

Thanks again fellas. Heated the absolute bejesus outta the gear to melt/flake off the remaining red threadlocker. Then rented a 2-jaw power steering puller from Advance Auto which made easy work of removing the gear. Zip-tied the 2 jaws together to hold it on there good, thanks to Sportsterpedia for the tip. My original issue is that I just didn't heat it up good enough to melt all that threadlocker off.

Reminder to replace your oil pump drive gear with a bronze Buell one when in there. I did not when I stuffed in some cams about 5 years ago. Well it's showing some bad wear so I am glad to have it outta there now. Don't skimp on it like I originally did, failure could ensue and it seems like I got lucky this time around.

Yep, that's a good thing to do. I put in the bronze gear with my cam install. I'm going to change cams again so I'll get to see how it looks. And check to make sure there's no extra bronze / brass debris under the cover.
