Default Hard Bags on a Sportster

Okay I am starting my conversion of my 2003 Anniversay Edition Sportster into a "Baby Bagger". My first install will be the bags. I have ordered all the parts:

Parts
Mutazu GA Hard Bags: (the only aftermarket bags that look similar to factory that do not cost you your first born child)
Mounts: I am using the mounts made by National Cycle. I really like these mounts because of how they mount to the bike. They have a plate that bolts the the side of the bike where the Sissy bar attaches and then the lower bars that hook to the bag themselves are very wide and will mount the bag secure.
Lights: I am adding a triangle shaped light and the bottom left corn at the rear of the bags that will serve as a running/brake light and then I am using a license plate frame that has the turn signals in along with another triangle light on the rear just for turn signals.

I am going to do a step by step process along with pictures for everyone to see what I did and how. I may also do a video as well.

The second stage will be adding either a factory Electra Glide fairing or a Hoppe/Klockwerks fairing. I will also give a play by play on that upgrade as well.

The bike should look like a small version of a Street Glide with hard bags (which is the look I am going for) Stay tuned for all the info.

I want to do a step by step because even though I have read some awesome information on the site, I have had to do alot of research about these bags and fairing so I figured that if I can do a detailed build up with pictures it may help the next guy.

Thanks to a couple people that have given me information already though. Everyone on here is awesome and I truly appreicate the help and information that I have gotten so far.

Looking forward to seeing the build. I am now considering installing some lowers, such as what comes with the Electra Glide Ultras - I found a company that makes them that even fit Sportsters and the Lindby crash bars (which is what I have).

If I have calculated the source of the turbulence that comes striaght up behing the tank, installing lowers should resolve that problem.

Well the parts are here but the bike isnt. I was riding home the other day and it would not start after stopping at the dentist so the bike is at my friends shop getting a new ignition so I cant start until it gets back. I will put up pictures of the parts tonight when I get home and then I will start the process of installing it maybe this weekend.

How would you guys feel about a video on YouTube that shows the install?

Hey Dave how do you like that Linby bar? I like it but I am not sure if I like it 289.00 dollars worth LOL

For the record, www.hardbags.com have some pretty damn good looking (similar to factory) bags that are less than 1/3-1/4 of the price of factory bags.

That's good info there, Bone! They do look like factory, and I see used bags going for more than that.

I seen those when I was looking around and I just didnt like them for some reason. If I am going to pay that much I can get nice used factory bags and have the real thing so I went with cheapies just to see how it will look.

Here is a picture of the parts I am going to use

This will be the first attempt. If I do not like it once they are on I will get factory bags and go from there. I kinda like the triangle lights for the marker light in the rear. I think they are going to look great. If I do not like them I will change to a cat eye style light and I may put filler panels between the bags and the fender with a fender extension. There is no aftermarket extension for the factory fender that I know of so I may have to create it myself so we will see.
