You don't have a CV carb anymore. When you open the throttle the slide is up and you're on the main jet. It's not like a CV where at full throttle you're still on the needle (slide only partially lifted) 'til the revs rise.
I don't think he just cracked this wide open. He started this pull at 1700rpm. You know as well as I do you can't crack it wide open at that rpm.
I'm a n00b at dynos so I'm not sure how they work but I watched him. He was bit surprised because of how good it runs and the really good torque. He couldn't quite explain it except the main either. 3 of their mechanics were right there the minute I pulled in. They were all quite impressed.
Maybe I'm wrong. But I just can't believe dying off at 5500rpm is just the way it is with these cams and a carb.

The torque curve is right where I want it and expected it and 86 ft.lbs. is pretty good max torque.
82 ponies by 5500rpm is not bad I just think it should climb for another 800 to 1000 rpm is all.
In all honesty I expected another 5 or 6 ponies up there . I still think it's there.
It's looking a little on the lean side up there. Should be closer to 13 not 14.

My timing map is good. I added 2 more degrees and got an identical run. Should've changed the main while I was there but I didn't want this to cost me an arm and a leg either. Ended up at $100 as it was but did 3 pulls. They were just intrigued with this sporty and cut me a break. They never heard a sporty sound like this one apparently. Like the looks too which didnt surprise me. Several of them always come outside to look at it when I go there.

1st one he did in 4th gear and was 79/82. The 3rd was identical to this one with 2 degrees added across the board. Both done in 5th gear. 82/86. He said he's never seen torque that high on a sporty especially with the hp being lower and he has one with hotter cams higher compression. Spent a whole day on that dyno tuning it too. lol
He said I did pretty good on my tune. He's seen them come in and the AFR was off the chart.

It's really not far off from what I expected. Another 800 to 1000rpm and 5 or 6 ponies up there before dropping off. Torque is is what I expected tho it wouldn't have dropped off quite so quick had it not died off at 5500 rpm I don't think.
I think I would be there had I kept the 170 in.

So put a 170 in. Try a 180 too. What's best is what runs best. Didn't you take a 170 out and put in a 160 just to go for your dyno run(s)?

I put the 165 in yesterday to try and didn't really get any surge backing out of WOT but the 170 felt good. I usually have a tendency to jet rich and decided to leave the 165 in. Put the 170 back in now and ran it. The 170 stays. It doesn't fall flat on it's face rolling off and feels better than the 165. The afr gauge I had installed showed fatter than it is.
I f×#&&÷d up with the 165. I know I did. 27.5 pilot is going back in too.

I raised my needle and lowered the main. That was obviously the wrong move. I know exactly what I need to do now.
What made it tough was the DCPR8Es were too cold. I jetted down. Once I realized the DCPR7Es were a better plug for me, I should've jetted back up.
That's why I dyno'd. I bet I hit 90hp and that torque doesn't drop off either.
Ok, upper 80s but with nearly identical torque numbers and hanging on, that's impressive.

Do the roll off test. Start in 3rd gear @ ~3,000 rpm. Go full throttle to ~5,000 rpm and kinda gently roll off the throttle a bit, down to ~ 7/8 throttle. If the engine picks up as you roll off you're lean. Put in a bigger main and repeat. If you get a slight hesitation or stagger you're rich, go to a smaller main and repeat. If it feels like you just closed the throttle a bit you're just right. It's a pretty accurate test. Ya develop a feel for it.
