Question Which backrest gives more space for passenger?

I like to ride up-two with my wife, but we feel somewhat straitened on our Sportster (XL1200T).

Here are examples of two available H-D detachable backrests (random pictures from internet):

I have one as on left side.
It looks like right variant gives a bit more space for passenger along the seat...
Is it really so? Did anyone had a chance to compare?

Not sure but "Mustang" sells a backrest pad the recesses into the sissybar giving you a bit more space.
