Lightbulb Need help! Fuel tank question

Does anyone know offhand or have a Harley parts catalog and could check, Is there a difference between a 1996 and 2004 Super Glide fuel tank?

I wanted to modify an 04+ carberated Dyna tank to fit my sporty, and want to get the aircraft style gas cap and matching console, but I may be able to get a good deal on a 96 tank. Can anyone say for sure if it will fit the bill.

Thanks.

You might want to ask that same question over on VTwin forum. Probably get a better and quicker response.

like to but not a member there. didn't want to be a dlck and join just for that. I know some guys here work at dealers and was hoping someone had a catalog or similar experience.

Cool

I have a Dyna WG EFI tank that I am going to set up to use on mine. Don't know the year of it though. Going to patch over the console hole, clean it up and paint it. Only modification needed is to fabricate a mounting bracket because the holes are waaaaay off.
You can probably get any tank to go on if you work at it...

I talked to a guy at the dealer today. He said that 2004 is earliest Tank that will accept the Aircraft Cap and console as a bolt on. Any older than that and I gotta Cut huge holes and other garbage. Don't have a problem modifing the brackets but don't really want to chop into the actual tank if I can easily avoid it. Also notable is that, I've been told, EFI was an option at this point and carbed versions of this tank only made it to 2005. 2006+ are soposedly only EFI tanks. So that gives me 2 years to choose from, '04-'05. Again this is what someone told me so if I'm wrong, please correct me.

Kinda sucks cause I found a '96 tank for $80. If anyone has a line on a reasonable Harley Salvage Yard, please post them, I'm sure many of us here could use another option. I would much rather just buy the tank, console, ect. already assembled so I don't have to search "nuts and bolts" all over the place, probably costing me twice as much.
