Rear pulley inner flange
I had a sobering little problem today on my 95 883 sporty .
The inner flange of the rear drive pulley fell off. I think I know when it happened as I could feel the out of balance, but I ASSUMED it was just my home made wheel weights fell off. (they hadn't)
It had been lovely and smooth until then.
I was travelling 70 odd mph for quite some time.
Glad it didn't lock anything up.
My mum stopped me as I was leaving her place coz she saw it dangling down.
Is this a common thing?
It looks like it's a press fit.

I've never heard of it happening before, but anything can fail on a 27 year old motorcycle, I suppose.

Sorry, but what is a ''rear pulley inner flange''? I have a 95.

When you stand behind the bike and look down at the belt on the right hand side of the wheel, the belt goes around the pulley. (I think this is the same word in American, but I'm not sure)
The belt sits on the cogs, and rests between two flanges.
The pulley looks like it's all one solid casting, but it's not. The right flange (outer side) is part of the casting, left side is a big ring pressed on.
I hope this explains it.
I'll post a pic on Monday.

this is not a common failure but i have seen it happen, probably due to miss alignment and too much force on the flange.
it is not pressed on, it is an interference, probably .001 but what holds it is the peening points where the aluminum is peen on top of the guard to secure it.
can it be repaired, well, hummmm, i have seen it but long term is iffy.
the problem is not enough meat left.

So, what are we talking about here anyway? Is this a case of ''failure to communicate''?
