Now my question is can I just switch over to synthetic oil instead of using the old fashioned oil? I heard that if your seals are not 100% that it will develop a leak then since synthetic will clean up all the old crude.
Bike has 27k on it now and bought it with 17k. Doesn't leak or use a drop of oil.

walmart has castrol 20w-50 petroleum based oil with high zinz content for 6.98 a quart. Absolutely perfect for big inch air cooled motors in the Sportsters not gtx

Your choice.
You can switch right over to synthetic or use dino if you want
80's/90's common saying was it would cause problems, which I don't believe is true.
Castrol has always been good oil in my opinion

The first synthetics did leak badly. A (very) few also turned to jello when mixed with other oils. By the 80's that was past history but you did still hear it repeated.
